What the difference between 250w and 500w electric bike

This is perhaps one of the most often asked questions before people wnat to buy an electric bike, what difference between different motor parameter or motor sizes? There are many different electric bicycle power ratings out there to choose, for example, 250w, 350w, 500w, 1000w, 36v, 48v… and more. Here will talk to you about 500w electric bike, and talking about what’s the difference between a 250-watt motor and a 500-watt motor.

Basically, the difference is actually quite simple, it’s 250 watts. But what does that mean? In terms of what is it going to mean to the rider, you have different motor sizes. A 250 watts electric bike, if you’re doing full throttle, is going to be able to get you to a top speed of 25 km per hour. If you’re looking at a 500w electric bike, that’s going to be able to get you to a top speed of about 35 kilometers per hour. Now, here is talking full throttle, no pedaling, and nothing. So that’s really number one difference, is going to be top speed.

The other difference is going to be the torque of the motor, you’re going to have more power. For example, 36v 250w motor max torque is over 30N.m and 48v 500w motor max torque is over 45N.m. Big difference between 250w electric bike and 500w electric bike is the ability to go uphill. Now, there is also different types of motors, and I would recommend a mid-drive motor electrc bike if you’re going to be doing a lot of hills, things of that nature. But without getting too much into the specifics, if you have a 500-watt motor, taking hills, going up hills, is going to be a little bit easier than on a 250 watts because it’s have more power. When it boils down to it, specifically the biggest difference is more power, which translates to top speed.

And than, if you are a heavier-set person, or you just have a need for speed, going to the higher-powered motor is going to be a better option because these difference … If you’re 100 pounds, a 250-watt motor may be enough for you. But if you’re 220 pounds, a 500-watt motor might be better for you because the top speed somebody on a 250-watt motor at 100 pounds can hit might be pretty close to the top speed somebody that’s 250 pounds on a 500-watt motor could hit. So, I still think the person on the 500w electric bike is going to be faster, but depending on the weight of the riders, it’s going to bridge that gap.

So, the big difference between 250w electric bike and 500w electric bike is the power. The way is basically knowing what you need, your body type, your weight, how fast you want to go, things of that nature. If you living in downtown and no long-distance riding or speed requirements, 250w electric bike is the best choice. If you living in hilly areas, long-distance riding and heavier-set person, might be 500w electric bike is better, sometime even need higher motor power.
